Streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime are trying to give subscribers some new original content but they aren't keeping up with the demand. I believe there's plenty smart, different content out there but a company has to identify and promote these stories. I want to call your attention to a distribution company that stands out from the rest, A24.
A24 was founded on August 20, 2012, by film veterans Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges. Katz formerly led the film finance group at Guggenheim Partners, Fenkel was the president, co-founder and partner at Oscilloscope, and Hodges served as Head of Production and Development at Big Beach. The name "A24" was inspired by the Italian A24 motorway Katz was driving on when he decided to found the company.
One of my favorite A24 movies is The Witch. I saw this a few years back and was disturbed and excited at the same time. The visuals set the mood perfect, the actors were sharp and the creepy plot forced me to watch till the end. After watching I wondered who was responsible for such a stunning cinematic experience. Then I went a little deeper and realized I had seen this logo many times before. I came to know the interesting roster of A24 movies from Room to Hereditary to Moonlight. Their choices in movies have a common thread of off beat storytelling with specific intentions. That's what I strive to do with paperxpencil© and my stories. A24 is an inspiration for me and I imagine many others.
Interesting enough on November 15, 2018, A24 and Apple announced that they had entered into a multi-year partnership where A24 will produce a slate of original films for Apple. I may have to look into the new Apple streaming service.
